Danny Jones Fund walkers’ fundraising total ‘peaks’ at £25,000
July 17, 2017
The 22 walkers who put their best feet forward on the 2017 Give Local Three Peaks Challenge last month have raised over £25,000 for the Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund.
The walkers, who included Rugby League legends Barrie McDermott, Terry O’Connor and Kevin Sinfield, and Danny’s wife Lizzie, completed the epic climbs of the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in less than 24 hours.
Along the way they had to cope with snowdrifts on Ben Nevis, getting lost in heavy cloud during a night-time ascent of Scafell Pike in Cumbria and gale-force wind and rain on the climb to the top of Mount Snowdon in Wales.
The money raised will help amateur Rugby League clubs purchase life-saving defibrillators and provide resource who want to protect their players’ health with cardiac screening.
“It’s a brilliant total which is going to help us do so much good in the game,” said Lizzie, who was the first of the walkers to reach the summit of Snowdon.
“I’d like to thank all the walkers and the support team for their fantastic effort: it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done and I couldn’t have completed the challenge without the amazing people I had around me.
“I would also like to thank our sponsors, Give Local, Arrow Self Drive, Canterbury, Nutrition X, Natural Fitness and Le Munch Bunch for their incredible generosity; Julia Lee for her logistical expertise and patience; and the guys at Carnegie Great Outdoors for their know-how on the hills.”
The 22 walkers on the Give Local Three Peaks Challenge who raised funds for the Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund were: Lizzie Jones, Barrie McDermott, Kevin Sinfield MBE, Terry O’Connor, Anthony ‘Chico’ Jackson, Francis Stephenson, Michelle Eaton, Jules Goodwin, Becky Allatt, Brian Leach, Darren Crake, Debbie Croston, Gemma White, Cheryl Grace, Laura Robinson, Hannah Smith, Kait Ludwig, Joe Butterfield, Siobhan Roe, Neil Wheeler, John Perks and Darrel Rogers.
